Cappella Stella Maris
Cappella Stella Maris is a vocal ensemble of enthousiast singers of good amateur and semi-professional level. Our focus is early, medieval and gregorian music, wich we treat and perform in an authentic setting cfr. location and in touch with the latest developments of early music interpretation.
Our repertoire covers works of renowned renaissance and early polyphony composers as Guillaume Dufay, Palestrina, Francisco Guerrero, Brumel, de Victoria, .. Earlier on we dive into the illustrous manuscripts of medieval Flandres, England, France, Germany... (for ex. the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, the Winchester Tropers) and study with the original Gregorian notation and neumen scripts that provide us musical information that cannot be obtained by modern transcriptions. Rather than `pleasant singing`, we surch for an authentic performance of high level, respecting the qualities of each individual in the ensemble. At least every two months, every member gets an individual voice coaching of our `maestra di cappella` Mikae Natsuyama. Mikae Natsuyama moved to Holland in 1992 and specialised in early and medieval music in the Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg and acquired a chamber music degree and an early music singing degree in the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague. New members are most welcome. Interested in our repertoire but no experience with old notation? Don`t worry, you get the occasion to have a few acquaintance sessions first to get the taste of medieval and renaissance peculiarities.
